Making musical sounds.

Joelle got to make different sounds.  She got drinking glasses, a jug of water, pencil and spoon. She then carefully filled each glass at different levels of water. With a spoon and pencil, she gently tapped on the side to make a sound.

Carefully adding water to the glass

Listening to the different sounds as I tap with a spoon and pencil.

Joelle made a recording on her iPad.

Designing T-shirts.

Joelle and Dothan got to do some creativity today by designing their own t-shirts. They collected different leaves from outside. The leaves were painted on with acrylic paint and placed onto the t-shirt.  Check out the amazing effects at the end.

Thinking where to place the leaf?

Dothan has decided to place her leaf under the rainbow.

We both enjoyed designing our t-shirts!!

creating your own toilet roll house.

Today we are going to create toilet roll houses. What you need to make one empty toilet roll tubes, pink colour paper, cupcake cases, empty egg tray, acrylic paint, glue, scissors and lawn grass.
First paint the empty toilet roll tube. We are using pink and purple acrylic paint. Next, draw the windows and front door with the marker pens. Cut a small doorway into the toilet roll.
Second, there are two ways you can make the roof. Dothan chose to use cupcake cases by sticking it on top of the toilet roll. I chose coloured plain paper. I traced a circle, cut around it and fold it like a cone.
Third step, when the paint is dry on the houses, glue this onto the cardboard. Take the empty egg tray, cut out some of holes that hold the eggs. This will be for the flowers. Lastly, glue the lawn grass to cover around the house.
We're very happy with our finished work. It's like a little village, combined together.
You've done a great job Dothan.
This would be a great idea to show my friends to make one of their own.

Cook Island doughnuts

Today we are making a popular dish we love to have on special occasions - Cook Island doughnuts. You will find the recipe and instructions of how make these delicious doughnuts below.
Into a large mixing bowl goes the flour and sugar.
When the dough is ready, roll it out, take a small section and roll it into a ball.
With Mum watching close by, we carefully turn the doughnuts on there side. Until they are golden brown. Here's both the recipe and instructions. Good luck!

Skittles and water.

Have you ever wondered what happens when you add water to skittles? We tried this experiment today and learnt some interesting things.
Did you know that skittles are coated in food colouring and suagr. When you add water to the skittles the coloured coating dissolves spreading through the water. It may look like the skittles has disappeared, but in fact it has been mixed with water to make a transparent (see through) liquid called a solution.
The skittles is a soluable substance which means when you mix sugar and water, the water dissolves to make a transparent solution.
The solution comes up with lots of lovely colours. Which gives us an idea, to use one colour and paint a picture. We chose pink as it's our favourite colour.
The skittles have not disappeared but the colours, certainly has.
Our painted pictures turned out really good. Next time when you have got a packet of skittles, give this a go and you will be amazed like us.

making decorative hearts

This art and craft is enjoyable to make. It has some maths concepts like recognising shapes, measuring, fractions, sorting and counting.
First find some cardboard. My cardboard has got circles already marked, which is helpful. If you don't have marked circles, you can draw them by tracing around a cup with a pencil. Second, draw a heart shape or get a family member to draw one for you. Next, carefully cut around your heart shape. Dothan has chosen to use plain cardboard paper.
Fourth step is to take the paper rolls and cut across 2-3cm. Next, make them into a heart shape and glue each one inside the circle. If you see half a circle, make the heart shape smaller. Count as you go along.
Fifth step is to take the coloured napkin paper, crunch it and fill this into the heart shapes with glue. Remember to think about how many napkins would you use to fill in each one?
Lastly, wait for the glue to dry. How amazing is the final result!! I'm so happy how it turned out. Just like a gifted chocolate box but without the chocolates. Dothan has chosen to use different coloured flower petals. Which is a brilliant idea. Two ways to decorate your cardboard by using coloured napkins, clear coloured cellophane and flower petals from the garden. Give this a go!!

making slime

Today we made slime!! It was so much fun from mixing the ingredients together and using our hands to form it into a huge ball. The slime felt very squishy and soft. It was a lot of work but we're very happy how it turned out in the end.
Here is the recipe to make our cool slime and the ingredients.
First job to pour the flour and make it look like a volcano. Next you carefully add the water into the centre.
This is the fun part, rolling and kneading the dough until it resembles like a giant snowball. Messy work, but lots of fun.
Looking at how it stretches. Dothan is proudly showing her work.
Thanks Mum for helping us out. This was such a cool activity. Check out our pink giant ball of slime!!

making dream catchers

There are so many ways to make a dream catcher. Some are made from materials such as metal or wooden hoop, ribbon, beads, gemstones, poms poms, wool, paper plates and feathers. Myself and my sister Dothan are using string, lots of coloured beads, feathers and plastic cups.
Getting started and working out which colour beads to use next.
Dothan busy threading her coloured beads, one by one.
My dream catcher looks very colourful and beautiful.
Check out our beautiful dream catchers. This was such as enjoyable activity, we got to design our own and also be creative at the same time!!
After lockdown and when we return back to school. I'm happy to show my friends in my class, how to make one of their own, too.

working at home

There is no school for the next seven days because the whole of Auckland is on lockdown. Myself and my sister Dothan did lots of writing at home.
